Angry SHUTTER Vibration Problems

Glad to be here in the community - hoping someone can help here...

Purchased a Great Condition 2006 F150 and while it does run great, it has one main issue...

Once you get to approximately 10-15 MPH there's a significant unmistakable SHUTTER... hard to tell precisely the origin.

Steps I have taken thusfar (which has not worked):

· Replaced the transmission filter and replaced fluid with synthetic (plus added Wynn's 'ShutterGuard' product) front brakes

· Replaced Axle housing gasket and gear oil (with friction modifier)

· Replaced front brake rotors, hubs plus calipers, pads, hoses and fluid.

· Replace serpentine belt (as a precaution)

(NOTE: rear brakes were replaced just before my purchase)

And yet the Shutter still continues… I’m at a loss… ANY IDEAS?

truck looks almost mint condition!

old plugs can cause a shudder condition that is often misdiagnosed as a trans issue. although it is known to typically occur at approx 40 mph

how many miles on your truck?

what is age of plugs?

if you do decide to do plugs, recommend using motorcraft and also changing boots/springs at same time.

You need to post any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) that may be present. Autozone and others read these for free.

Shuttering is often hard to fix because there are so many possible causes. Here are some things that can help pinpoint the cause:
  • Does it keep shuttering as speed is increased?
  • Does it make any noise?
  • Are the tires wearing uniformly?
  • Was there any improvement after the transmission fluid was changed? Was the old fluid black.
  • Are any wheel's wheel bearings loose?
  • Are the motor mounts in good condition?
  • Does the driveshaft have any play at the U-joints?
  • Does it have any misfire OBD codes?
  • Does it have any ball joints play?
  • Does rotating the tires change the shuttering?

Any idea why this occurs around 40 mph?

* Great questions and while I do not know the answer to all, here’s basic responses in CAPS;

Does it keep shuttering as speed is increased? NOT AT ALL… ONLY AT 5-10 MPH, THEN GOES AWAY

Does it make any noise? NONE

Are the tires wearing uniformly? YES, THEY SEEM FINE

Was there any improvement after the transmission fluid was changed? Was the old fluid black. DID NOT SEEM TO BE ANY IMPROVEMENT. FLUID – SHOULD BE NEW HOWEVER IT WAS A SHOP AND I DID NOT WITNESS THE CHANGE

Are any wheel's wheel bearings loose? ALL SEEMS FINE, BUT I’LL INVESTIGATE FURTHER (THX)

Are the motor mounts in good condition? ALL SEEMS FINE, BUT I’LL INVESTIGATE FURTHER (THX)

Does the driveshaft have any play at the U-joints? ALL SEEMS FINE, BUT I’LL INVESTIGATE FURTHER (THX)

Does it have any misfire OBD codes? HAD IT CHECKED ONCE, BUT WILL DO SO AHGAIN (THX)

Does it have any ball joints play? ALL SEEMS FINE, BUT I’LL INVESTIGATE FURTHER (THX)

Does rotating the tires change the shuttering? GREAT POINT… WILL DO SO!

Thank YOU again for the recommendations… will move forward…

4 wheel drive?
Hubs disengaging like they should?
Bad front wheel bearing?
Sounds like a fun one to drive
Have a front end / NVH mechanic drive it
