Default Shudder at 50mph

I was doing some research on the site about my 50mph shudder. I have a 05 xlt with the 5.4. It doesn't happen all of the time but when it does it's very noticeable and when I park the truck it smell like the back brakes are burning. I read that it could be the parking brakes, the parking brakes cables, or the rear brake calipers are shot. I know i need rear clutch pack and that is a different issue. Has anyone encountered this Issue and what caused it?

Have your tires been balanced recently?

Yea I had new tires installed last month so I know they are balanced. I checked the lugs thinking that was the problem but they are tight.

Hmmm, the most common problem I've seen with shudder at a certain speed is tires out of balance. I just had my tires balanced a few months ago, but they still shuddera a little bit cuz bfg's are hard to get balanced, so they're as close as the tire ship could get.
You could take it back to that tire shop and have them check the balance.
Or
Maybe check your u-joints for play in them.
Other than that I dunno man.

Mine does the same thing, the tire store replaced the tires with another set and the same thing. Still looking for the problem.

I'm gonna go back to the place that installed my tires and have them check the balance. I will check the u-joints later on today. I might just drop it off at the dealership and see what they say. I have some trips coming up and I don't need issues on the road.

Alright I have the same problem with 04 and the tranny guy told it was the torque converter not locking or something like that and he said they sell some stuff at autozone and such. Its called dr.tranny shudder fix. is it when you let off of it when your running 50 and give it gas cause if thats what its doin than I have same problem just havent tried that stuff yet. See in my truck I can jump on and keep the gas down and run it all the way up to what ever speed I want it to. But if I let off at 40 and up and the give it gas it does it. Hope this helps.

Default TSB

Found this, maybe it will help

TSB 08-11-1

06/09/08

INTERMITTENT VEHICLE VIBRATION - PARKING
BRAKE DISENGAGEMENT CONCERNS

FORD:
2004-2008 F-150, F-150

LINCOLN:
2006-2008 Mark LT

This article supersedes TSB 08-4-18 to update the Part List.

ISSUE
Some 2004-2008 F-i 50 (excludes Heritage) and 2006-2008 Mark LT vehicles may exhibit an intermittent vibration or shudder from the rear of the vehicle typically at speeds 45 MPH (72 Km/h) and higher. This may be caused by the parking brake remaining partially engaged. Affected vehicles were produced at: Dearborn Truck Plant before 2/13/2008, Kansas City Assembly Plant before 2/18/2008 and all 2004-2007 vehicles produced at Norfolk Assembly Plant.

ACTION
Inspect the parking brake assembly for evidence of remaining partially engaged and repair using the following service procedure.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Raise the vehicle and remove the right hand (RH) and left hand (LH) rear brake rotors. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Sections 206-00 for 2004 and 206-04 for 2005-2008.

2. Inspect the parking brake shoes and parking brake drum for signs of engagement while driving (excessive discoloring and wear). If the parking brake system does not indicate signs of trouble, this is not the cause of the vibration. Do not continue with this TSB. Refer to the appropriate WSM, Section 100-04 for NVH diagnosis.

2004-2005 Model Year Vehicles

1. Replace both the RH and LH parking brake actuator levers and replace the parking brake cable assembly on the affected side of the vehi [...]
