Shocks & Struts
Hello all,
I have a 2007 F-150 XLT with approx 92k miles on it. Had it in the dealer for some routine maintenance and they told me I need a new shocks and struts replaced? They didn't do a test drive so my question is for the amount of miles it has is this a normal time frame for replacement?
Any feedback much appreciated

Mine began to leak at about 73K.
Look at the cartridges (inside the front springs) and see if they are leaking oil. Mine were. The worse the roads are in your area (or if you drive off road), the sooner they will give out.
92K is a good amount of mileage for the factory struts. You got your moneys worth out of them.

Thanks guys. Next question: Do I have them replace them with what the choose for or should I look for a specific type? I use my truck as a daily driver. Wondering if the dealer Willa be more costly then doing it anywhere else?
the dealer will use Motorcraft and charge flat rate for the work.
It may need to be re-aligned after the work. Ask them if this is included in their work.
On Ebay as an example, the cartridges range from around $74.00 to $116.00 apiece (OEM quality to KYB's). There's a couple hundred, then comes the labor. You can check this site for an average price for Motorcraft prices (looks like $82.78):

Toooooo high! If you are unable to do the work yourself (at a minimum you'll need a spring compressor and some heavy duty type wrenches to remove the suspension bolts, etc), take it to one of the local garages, such as a Firestone, Tire Kingdom, or simular. You should be able to get both sides done for the price that dealer quoted you for one axle. The "other" shops will use cartridges from Monroe or simular. They are good. Might even have a "lifetime" warrantee, as the replacements will net you another 75K, and they assume you won't have the truck that long to cash in when these wear out.
For sure, shop around. You will do much better with pricing.
