Default shifter issue

i have a 04 f150 fx4 5.4 supercab, shifter is in the center console and lately and sparatically its been happening more and more, usually when you hit the break you can feel a click in the shifter disengaging the lock on it, well not it takes 20-30 tries before it works right, anyone else have this problem and if so know how to fix it

Instead of running out and buying one you could try to clean things up a bit. Take it apart and clean it up with a blow gun or air in a can.

pop off the top of the console and you will see a white tab, put your foot on the brake and you will see it go down when your foot is on the brake.

just buy a new one, you can't clean them up that i know of. if it's not working everytime, it's time for a new one.
