Default Shifter Help!! Broke-ed

Hello guys and gals,

So my shift cap broke off years ago, and I secured it with a screw. Well, I got thinking today that I would paint all that chrome and went to remove the shifter. I read multiple ways to get it off (1=pry the lower chrome from the grey and 2= pull out the button) but seem to have broken something...

Now, I cannot get the truck into park because I pulled on the button and must have broken something. The button would not come out, it just pull out a little and then nothing.

So, I can't get the truck into park, cant get the keys out the ignition, and have a problem!

Any help out there? I couldnt find a decent writeup of the process.

Thanks!
Hunter

Thanks guys, I was able to put a death-grip on the button and jam it into park... in the process breaking that button pretty good. Went to ford this morning and bought a new shift **** assembly and am painting all the chrome in the process.

I have read through many of threads about finding a leather shift wrap for it. Looks like there are no options for getting this on a 2005 without going to a custom leather job from a shop.

There was a guy on here about a year ago that made up a few leather wraps for himself trying to get it to fit just right. I think he was planning on making them for others if there was any interest. Might want to search for it and see if he can make you one for a reasonable price. Sorry, I forget his username.

So here is the latest... I go to reinstall the new part and get it on. However, when I push the button it does not lift that inner rod high enough to get it out of park. I messed with it too much and bent my spring, so I had to order a new one.

any advice on how to get this back on?
