Console Shifter Handle Replacement Guide
So, my shifter didn't break and it was still ok looking, but it was starting to chip on the chrome finish and because of this, it was starting to cut my hand, so I replaced it.
There is no simple location online for replacing it, so here it is:

Furthermore, the console cover doesn't have to be removed, but I did because I didn't know what to do. (I think the little white thing is for the brake override for shifting out of park, as it moves when you put your foot on the brake).
1. First, put on the parking break and shift the truck into N. (I didn't do this and I had to do it after the shifter was removed, so it is possible)
2. Slide down the chrome piece on the shifter by wiggling it and applying downward pressure, it was kind of difficult, but try not to use too much force.
3. The current handle is held on by a "cuff" around the shifter assembly and the button internally (you can see this on your new handle). To remove it you have to:
3.1. Move the black piece down by applying force evenly to the ring below the handle, I did this with two screwdrivers and alternated sides and force, eventually it will release and slide down below the handle to match the chrome sleeve.
3.2. while pulling the button out pull up on the handle. It should "pop" up. Careful that the spring is still in place and has not gotten stuck inside of the handle (It happened to me while trying to re-install the handle)
4. This step isn’t listed anywhere and took me 20 minutes to figure out: pull up on the internal white piece with grease on it; it should kind of lock in place
5. While pulling the button out, put the shifter back onto the shaft.
6. Before the next step, make sure that it works and the button will depress, if it doesn't then something is wrong. What happened with me was that the inner white piece has to be pulled up.
7. Slide up the black sleeve until it "clicks" into place.
8. Pull up the chrome piece and your done. You may have to fiddle the chrome piece a little as mine did not line up correctly the first couple of tries, there was a gap between it and the handle.
Hope it worked for you! For me it took about 1/2 hour, but I didn't want to break anything and I could easily do it in 1/2 the time if I had to again!

I think I may do this as my factory one is wearing. Question.... My top silver portion of the factory shift **** wiggles pretty bad. Can this be tightened based off what you saw during the install (without glue or rigging)?

I just peeled the chrome off the top dome piece. It doesn't reflect light now, which I like a lot better. No more cut up palm either.

Chrome inside a cab is very distracting. Might look pretty, but when the sun hits it at the right angle it's blinding. I'd prefer removing all the interior chrome--but at the least the shifter area.
