Default She spit out a plug

Well was on my way to see my family in Ky and I pulled over at Food Lion in Mountain City to sleep for a little while. Well I crank my truck up and it sounds horrible. Long story short it spit out the plug and broke the coil. Went to 3 different shops and they were all swamped. Had to take it to the Ford Dealership in Boone,NC. My mechanic said he could do it for half or so what Ford charged. But for a rollback to take it that far would be 150+. So I am getting the a new coil, spark plug, and whatever else required for Ford to fix it for $490. Supposed to be ready tomorrow. I feel like I got robbed.

That sounds fair, you're paying for his knowledge and he has the correct tools and parts. When you get back home price the repair kit and you'll see why they charge big bucks for this repair.

Is this a 4.6 or 5.4? I had a 02 GT that spit out a plug cause it came loose and eventually backed out to the point it blew out... First thin is first try to install a plug to see if they all stripped or if it was the last thread or two... Mine totally wrecked the threads but on that motor there's only 4 threads to start with so I got a kit from auto zone called a thread saver ..( not a heli coil kit ) drill to the appropriate size thread in the insert and set it with the tool supplied and install plug... I had fun with mine cause of it being one of the back ones... If your unfortunate like me and get use the tool that sets it in place just use a lil lock tite on the insert ( the outside threads that will insert in the head not the inside) place the insert on the plug thread in place snug allow lock tite to dry and well... Lock... Lol and snug up on te plug more and run it... Ran mine like this for 40,000 miles at which point I ended up selling it...

5.4?

Ive never had a problem with my plugs and since 2004 have changed them at least twice myself without breaking one or buying the wrong plugs. Ive heard of people getting the wrong plugs somehow and the cylinders hitting them after install. Also, plugs breaking at the block.

I didnt even know there was a problem with the plugs until a few years ago.

It is a 4.6 and that is high.My mechanic told me he could of got me out for around 200-250. Could have had the mechanics in Mountain City do it, but would have been another day or 2. I get it back in the morning. Figure I will have the rest of the plugs changed out when I get back from my trip.
