sealed hubs
Hi Guys,
My 2004 manual has an illustration of 2 front hubs one with conventional inner and outer bearings the other with sealed bearings.
Can I fit the sealed bearing hub to my truck?
I thought I had an answer to this question, in a previous post, 5 yes, or 8 but not 7 lug nuts.1/13/17
but now I can’t get it to pop up. Maybe it was too lengthy.

Why are you looking to run the sealed unit? There’s been a weirdly high number of unit failures on the sealed bearings. I’d have much rather had the tapered roller design than the sealed unit.
I don’t believe the swap will work simply because the old design is 5 lug while the new is 6.

Thanks for your reply.
One reason, we have a C/Vic with 150000 miles on it, no problem what so ever, with the sealed bearings.
I never knew of any set-backs with the sealed bearings on the trucks. Which now for me is a game changer.
At the present there are 7 lugs, if I went to 6 of 5, I feel sure I would have a better choice of lightweight wheels.
It’s a shame, because then I would need to change the rear axles to match the front.
But I like this truck, and I feel it is worth doing some work on it.
But if there are no sealed bearing hubs that are dependable and long lasting, I think I should drop the idea.
