when the insurance company figures replacing parts, they always figure the cheapest. usually they only put on OEM parts if its got up 36k on it. most after market chrome bumpers from keystone(for our trucks atleast) are rechromed repaired OEM units anyways.

Probably depends on how much hell you raise also. Average Joe Driver doesn't care most of the time what bumper he gets as long as the truck/car is fixed.

Also, for what it's worth. My 2002 has no rust at all on the inside of the rear bumper. I never drive it off paved roads so this may explain the lack of rust.

Now sure what the cutoff is on this one, but State Farm will not put a new bumper on if the vehicle is a couple of years old. Got hit in a parking lot by someone with State Farm ins. If that's what the state allows (Mn in this care) they don't have to put a new one on. I was the victim and got a rechrome no matter the bitching and complaining as that's what the state ins commission allows them to do. It rusted through the chrome in less than a year and they had to do it again. I had Hartford and it was the same way, I was told a 1 year cutoff on new vs rechrome.

I have an 07 Lariat with painted front and rear bumpers.

My rear bumper is starting to rust along the bottom edge and the outside edges.

I am going to try the Warranty route at the dealer in the spring, but I am not holding out much hope.

Has anyone else had thie issue, and what fix did you end up with.

Also, are there any suggestions I hear alot about powder coating, but also thought about the stone guard paint.

Any input would be appreciated.

If you're worried about it just take it off prep it and use Frame Saver or a similar product to protect it from further oxidation.

So why are the people at the dealership Idiots??? They did not make the bumper. Most likely it was made by a third word country....at a low labor facility. While I absolutely love my Ford, I realize the majority of it's parts are not "American"; it's only assembled in America.

My '08 had a little surface rust inside the bumper the day I got it home. X2 on the POR15.
The way these bumpers are designed, they hold alot of crap in there, like road salt and mud. Rust is to be expected.

Maybe a little off-topic, but doesn't it seem funny that you can walk through a junkyard and see cars from the '30s-'60s that have been sitting there for 30 years or more, that are complete piles of crap, but the bumpers are still shiny chrome, and we're talking about vehicles from the 2000's that are rusting?

I guess they really don't make stuff like they used to.

My 2004 FX4 has the painted bumpers. The front bumper is starting to rust from rock chips. Thinking about putting bedliner on the bumpers, rockers and step bars. Has anyone done anything like this? How did it look?
