Default Rust Question

I’m looking to purchase a used 2007 F150 ~96K miles. The only thing that concerns me is the rust. I’ve attached some pictures of the cab corners and underbody. Is this an acceptable amount of rust? The price seems right and the big upside to me is the Ford dealer is installing a brand new motor prior to selling. Would that be worth fixing the cab rust or should I keep looking? Thx

Not sure what the price is, but if you want to fix it (it's only gonna get worse and faster from here), you're probably looking at 3-4 for body work. Are the wheel wells rusted on the bed?

He is talking about the wheel well, not the wheel.
That is an area that tends to rust quite a bit as well.

Unfortunately I don’t have a picture of inside the wheel well. From this picture they look ok. It’s mainly the under body rust/cab ends etc that concern me.

You will be hard pressed to find a truck that age thats spent its life in the rust belt in much better condition than that. The supercrews are especially susceptible to cab corner rust from 2004-2014, almost all of the ones I see around here have visible rust in the cab corners. The cab corners are expensive to fix though, expect to pay about $2,000 per side for them to be done right. The rest of the pictures look pretty decent, the frame looks solid and the wheel wells look to be solid as well.

appreciate your feedback. Given that I would assume you’d take the rust/new engine over finding something with a little less rust but original engine.

Thats a tough one, for me Id usually rather deal with mechanical stuff than rust but it depends on how much I want the vehicle. In this case if its in your price range and is solid other than the cab corners it may not be a bad deal. Maybe you can work out a deal with the dealership to have them fix the cab corners, maybe split the cost or something. Never hurts to ask.

I will ask them that. The other one I’m looking at isn’t a crew cab but apparently has no visible rust. 2008 with 76K
