Default rumor?

my brother wants to get true duals on his '05 5.4l ext. cab. a local muffler shop told him that a true dual set up would burn out the computer in his truck in a matter of a year. i already have true duals on my '04 4.6l and have had no problems with it.. anyone heard of this, or know anything about what the shop might be talking about?

Muffler shop is wrong. He/she is most likely thinking that the true dual settup will cause the truck to run lean. It will not run lean enough to burn out the computor.

If anything, the engine would detonate (spark knock), but this is not the case either.

Aye. It wouldn't harm it at all. There's thousands of folks who are running them with no issue.....

will need catlytic converters to pass state inspections if your state requires them, and make sure all o2 sensors are installed, other than that shouldn't be a problem

You want the O2 sensors because that tells your computer to richen the fuel/air mixture. If it did not, yes, you would lean it out and toast it. Just like a sled!

it sounds like the shop is just trying to cover his ***. Maybe its just me but cats or no cats, the sound is almost the same, no point in causing more problems for yourself. The days of viciously loud true dual exhaust is far and few between. Newer motors have too much compression to get the sound like the old days

Sounds like the exhaust shop did not really want to make money. Had true duals on both my trucks since new without one single problem.

Exhaust will not cause it to run lean, a CAI will. Ive had true duals on mine for 70,000 miles with no issues.

Agreed. NTM, taking off the cats, with todays motors, sounds trashy. Just my opinion.
