Default rough start

We finally got a little snow and the temp dropped recently so i guess "winter" is here. My truck picked up on it real quick will starting problems. It started fine yesterday and I drove it to the store was out for about an hour go back to it try and start it and when I turn the key it just clicks..... dosnt even try to turn over. I dont believe the battery is the problem it seems like something else....any ideas? Also one time i turned the key it clicked and nothing happened then i tried it again a few seconds later and it started...... I feel like something isnt catching? starter?

Check the fpdm under the spare tire for corrosion... I had cover mine in corrosion-x hd ... Its amAzing the amount of salt in the streets for that small snow.... And i thought that salt damage to the cars were due to live close to the ocean....

So take the spare off and itll be mounted to the body? Do you think maybe it could be the solenoid ceised up? I have heard of this before too where you have to hit it with something to free it up.. where is the solenoid even located on the newer 150's?

Next time it happens... STOP, use a hammer and tap the side of the starter. If its too hard to reach, use the end of a piece of pipe or a broom handle. If it starts after tapping the starter... You need a new one. I suggested this to another guy in these forums and he laughed at me.... But it really works. The mechanics at my work do it all the time to diagnose starter problems.

If not the starter, check the battery's ground cable for connection and corrosion (both ends).

If it just clicks it nearly has to be a battery. I had my fuel lines freeze 2 weeks ago and had to add some dry gas/injector cleaner to the tank and it fixed it right up. My starter just turned and turned with no crank added the dry gas and let it sit in the sun all day and it fired up and ran fine since

its definitely not the lines freezing up so i dont think a bottle of heet is needed. its not that cold in jersey. As for the starter that sounds legit I honestly think it is going bad but dont want to believe it haha. Are they expensive? also that starter is mounted on the front of the engine with the little red wires and **** inside of it right?

No. That's the alternator. Banging on that will only get you tired. Lol. Starter should be passenger side towards the rear I engine down low. Just to the rear of the front tire, kinda hidden behind frame rail. It's cylindrical in shape and has only a few wires to it. Check the connections of those too. No clue how much$. Happy hunting.

I got a new one just as prevention, still worked fine but it was starting to show corrosion and age, if it is your starter going bad you would know it. Is the truck making a clicking noise, or is it actually turning the engine and not starting, if its just clicking it nearly has to be the battery, if it makes weird noises or nothing it may be the starter but if its trying to start and not could be anything
