Post Rough Running 05

I have a 2005 5.4 3v. I recently started having issues with it not wanting to run right. This started when I was driving through town and just all of a sudden no oil pressure and then a very hard idle, then a harder idle. I have not ever worked on one of these f150s and was wanting to get a second opinion. I know oil pumps are not likely to fail so I figured the next thing would be timing or bearings??? Any additional inside would be so much appreciated

Too many possibilities to diagnose over the internet. Sorry.

Many reasons to lose oil pressure. Excessive end play on crank is the worst - need a reman for that .Your tensioners can be blown -gasket bad ,common failure .
Drop oil pan if metal shim on crank laying in there its bad news . Check to see if plastic guide pieces blocking oil pickup- very common . At best you will need a full timing job .
Your oil pressure gauge is an idiot light , it reads midscale for anything over 7 psi . You can do an engine flush to help clear engine clogs but pulling pan is first .

The low oil pressure could be because something else is making it run so poorly it almost dies, but as mentioned above low oil pressure due to a blockage in the pickup screen or a thrust bearing failure will absolutely make the engine run like crap and besides the vct system not operating correctly the wear due to no oil pressure will start quickly thereafter.

Checking the crankshaft endplay and dropping the oil pan to look for debris would be the first things to check.

The FPDM is one of the items that could make it run like crap out of nowhere especially.in wet conditions so if you don't know the condition of yours have a look at it.
