Default rough idle and skipping

Can anyone tell me why when I first cranked up and left my truck was skipping really bad, barely running and shaking very violently. When I sat at the stop sign it almost knocked off. Stayed this way for about 5-10 minutes wouldn't go over 45 mph without cutting out? It finally quit about half way home. Its an 05 5.4 3v with 153k on it.

What is a fpdm? I figured it was a coil but it never once threw a code.

This is what my fpdm looked like. I looked it up and I think It may be corroded some.

It doesn't look too badly corroded. But maybe. I would also change your fuel filter, clean MAF and throttle body, new air filter.

The fuel filter and air filters are clean. we installed a cai a couple months back so the filters clean along with a fuel filter.

When were your plugs last changed, if ever? Ford now recommends 60K mile plug changes vs the 100K mile interval recommended when the truck was built.

I chased a cold engine stumble at initial throttle tip in and rough idle for quite a while. Changing plugs at ~72K miles helped a lot. New coils fixed it completely. Truck purrs like it is brand new now (other than the phaser diesel sound) at 79.5K miles.

Original coils? If so they are a likely culprit.

Nah most of them have been replaced. It wasnt throwing a code like it usually does for coils.
