Default Rough idle.

I have a 2007 with 5.4. Sometimes after driving a few miles when I come to a stop sighn it starts to idle hard almost like it's going to cut off. I replaced the gas filter and it kept doing it. I took it to a shop and he put it on a diagnostic and it come up that it might be some sensors. He changed out one, can't rember which one, and that didn't fix it. It then checked the oil pressure and said it was low at idle. It says it could be the cam cap, oil pump, timing chain tensioners , or crank end play. Be fore I took it to him the check engine light wasn't on but since I got it back it's on. He said that these problems have been going on since 2004 when they came out with these motors. Has any one else had this problem or now what else it could be? Thanks.

Some 2007's came out with bad thrust bearings from the factory.. which would make for a catastrophic failure not too far out of the lot... How many miles do u have on the truck?

If it has low enough miles some of the fix may be covered on 60 thousand mile warrenty... Some have had engine failure after this and have engine swaps at fords expense... But not without a fight...

I had a problem similiar brought it to the dealership but I knew what they were going to tell me needed new cam phasers and vct solenoids... But it had a horrid sound along with it.. maybe u want to stick ur head out the window when the bad idle occurs.. anyways I did my research on the problem with it and knew it could be real bad news and possibly a new motor.. so I opted to trade

If u got the codes off hand we could help u more.. look for a p0022 or a p0345

I would get it to a ford dealership one that u have gone to before... If its not making bad and I mean bad sounds u may be able to swap out the cam phasers and vcts and be good... Mine sounded horrid...

If u Google 2007 ford f150 problems there is a site that will show u common compaints and this is one of them... Out of 8 complaints about this 5 or so reported needed engine swap, and the others said unresolved? I'm going off memory here

Also, I was not able to hear the sounds inside the cab during the bad idle only after putting down the window..

Let me mention one person I know was able to change out the vct solenoids and all was well... But his was an earlier model.. which had solenoids that could be swapped from above. 2007's you need to remove valve cover.. in that case they recommend swapping out phasers...

Myself I opted to trade out, before they opened it up, after research I knew it wasn't a simple fix, and the dealership thought it would be... They haven't and could not fix it, it is going to the auction as is now..

Thanks for the help. I might try to change out the phasers and vct and see if that will do it. Do you now if there are and after market products out there that might work?

Would it be ok to drove until I fix it?

Realize that cam phasers and vct solenoids have been quoted as much as 2000 for the job... I personally was quoted 1700.. there are products out there.. I believe lockouts? There is plenty of info on this forum... Search function works wonders

I looked up some and think I can change them out my self. I looked at summit and they sell a cam phaser kit for around $210. I'm trying to get a price on the VCT now.
