Default Rotors question

About to replace my rotors.

Do I take the pin thing out and reuse it with my new spindle nuts?

The cotter pin should probably be replaced, but it can be reused.

Do I just bend it carefully until it can slide out? Sorry never replaced rotors that were this involved before... Usually they just slide off. =]

Bend the ends until it's straight and pull the pin out. They tend to break, but if they don't, they can be reused.

Cotter pins, however, are cheap.

Do you or does anyone happen to know what size socket is needed for the spindle nut??

Thanks.

Usually just unbolt the callipers 2 mounting bolts, remove the calliper and pull off the rotor, gently tapping them to loosen. Yours look worn and should be replaced. Use a tool to push the pistons back into the callipers being careful not to overfill the master cylinder. you may need to remove some fluid in your master cylinder if you have added some to it. Do one side at a time so as not to mess up stuff. Ask someone qualified to help you do it safely. There is a wrencher on practically every block and for a beer or 2?

It's not that easy for a 2WD, but I appreciate the help.

May be a little late now, but a Haynes manual would answer all of your questions. The cotter pin is keeping the spindle nut from coming loose. If the rotor and hub are 1 piece, this had to come off. Don't re use it. Really, less than a buck for 2 cotter pins. If you have any questions, get a Haynes manual. It looks like you are in the middle of the job, but your life is in your hands when you do the brakes. Good luck, happy wrenching.

Bend cotter key with a pair of diagonals/side cutters and use it to gradually work the key out. The inner shield will pull straight off and the nut should be easily gotten to. Dab some antisieze on the threads to protect the nut on removal over rusted threads. Pick up a deep socket from auto parts store. You now need some specialized tools. Remove the calliper and pull assembly straight out at you not dropping it and all. Ask a qualified neighbor to give you a hand. He will be happy to. He also has the tools you need to do this job right and not screw it up. Beers to you.
