Default Rotors

Are rotors something you need to invest on? I have read allot of threads about people having the car vibrate while breaking. Also read that rotors will warp with the temp change.

I want to fix this braking issue before my trip. I am driving from Florida to NC. Nice temp change their. I went to the local auto shop and they have a dura last rotor for 36$ and the guy told me that rotors are rotors. Price of the rotors are close to getting your rotor shaved if its not warp.

What are your thoughts and are rotors just rotors?

basically, rotors are just that. Really depends on heat displacement...slotted or regular rotars. I stuck with regular ones and opted for ceramic pads. Really wouldnt get all bent out of shape about it. I have to drive from TN to FL all the time to see my parents and never had an issue in my 08

I would highly recommend new rotors over shaving them though.

dont you think it matters on how much they were scored? Purchased new ones a month ago at 100 per rotor and probably could have saved that money

Default Rotors

My experience with front wheel rotors was a real disaster. First there was a vibration when braking, this with almost continuous use of the brakes due to mountainous terrain caused repeated overheating of the rotors, calipers, pads, etc. What resulted was a failure of the caliper pistons which got stuck in the brake applied position and a total HALT of movement. This was all resolved by investing in new rotors ($250 each), caliper replacement, new pads (ceramic), new retaining nuts. The original rotors - 26k miles had been turned once, which lasted approximately 1-1/2 months. I have heard about this occurrence from more than 6 F150 owners, with almost identical results which leads me to believe that factory rotors are JUNK. If the signs are there take care of it ASAP so as to avoid the extra expense and time on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck!

Is your truck a 2wd or 4wd? The 2wd cost about 85-115 a piece. 4wd is about 55-85. Also becareful with the 2wd rotors, its a bearing and rotor assembly and has to be torqued to like 300ft pounds of torque and make sure you replace the spindle nut. $22 from ford. Cheap isn't good.

I am doing the rear. I am hoping to get rid of the vibration during braking. I bought wearever rotors p#YH145521 and pads are p#PNAD1012 same brand. Those are ceramic, will use them if needed. Would I need anything else? I was watching a video and they spoke about bearings and grease packing? Did I forget to buy something? First time doing brakes on a vehicle.
