Hi, so my passenger side mirror (on my f150 xlt, SCREW, 2007) hit a toyota and took it out. anyway, just the glass is cracked in 3 places, but the housing is fine. wondering if it is easier to just replace the glass with another heated glass mirror, or if it is better to change the entire thing.

If the inside and the mounting parts are still good, just replace the glass. In my case the mounting sticks were broken too so I had to replace the entire mirror.

 

I saw the pdf guide that was posted on here, seems pretty straight forward, did you or anyoneo n here know a good place to get the mirror? I did some searching on the forum but couldn't really find anything... then I went to ebay and found this

Might go check around a junkyard today, but i'm just wondering how reliable this one is compared to a dealer one..

 

Just buy the cheapest thing you find on ebay... but beware, your link is JUST the glass, without the black plastic on it... I think it's better to find glass with the backing plate, like this (driver side.. so this is wrong item): http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2004-...Q5fAccessories

But if the backing plate is still good, why not try

Or else check the junkyard, maybe you can get one cheap

 

wow I didn't even think to look at the black plastic backing plate.. of course finding the glass with one on ebay isn't happening since there aren't any for 07's. lol but I will definitely check this out and hope I have the backing part in tact. Thanks for the heads up!!!

 

there is glass for 07... but without backing plate. Maybe check craigslist or your local junkyard. I think that's the cheapest option. Dealer is other option

 

Yeah so while I was driving to the store, I figured I'd go into advance auto parts and see what they have, just for the hell of it.. they carry the glass for 20 bucks. I figured why not. it's worth a shot. lol

I did confirm it on the manufacturers site too that it was the one to fit a heated mirror etc.

can't see if this glass is heated... i think it will fit, but i don't think the heating will work... this is just a cutted piece of glass :P

 

I had the same thing happen to me recently advanced autoparts doesn't carry it, pep boys has it but comes without the plastic back that clips onto the motor and it's special order, ended up going to the dealership they had it in stock

 

yeah the glass itself isn't heated.. (90 day warranty though) but it says it can go onto a heated frame..lol. My only concern with it was that if the heating element was going to mess up the glass and give it burn hole marks.. lol otherwise, my black plastic frame around the glass is in good condition, and the heated glass on ebay is like 54 bucks. Definitely sucks though lol
