Default Removing Tail Light

The manual says to remove the two screws and carefully pull the lamp assy away from the tailgate pillar to disengage two hidden snap-in retainers. Any idea which way to pull? I have pulled straight back and to the side with no luck. Any more pressure than what I have used and it’s going to have to bust. I guess I need to know which way and where to pull so I can give it a Lot more force the right way.

I got it off after probing around with a flat 6”scale to find the retainers. They were located on the radius part of the pillar so I pulled straight out at about a 45° angle from the back of the truck real hard and it popped right off. I’m surprised something didn’t break because of using so much force. It went back on hard, too.
