am I happy with it? yeah I guess, motor sounds a tiny bit louder(better) I know the stock baffles just created a bit of turbulance for the air flowing to the throttle body/filter so now they are removed and the air will flow smooth into the filter.

Is the mod worth it? yes if your bored and dont want to buy a CAI. It was really easy considering I have a stand up band saw and all the tools to do it. I did the whole thing in like 40 min.

So since you said you have a band saw I am assuming you cut the silencer off permanently or can you put it back on?

Although just looking at it, it would appear so but actually not. The "silencer" is a Hemholtz resonator. It's a tuned element that is specifically designed to improve the intake flow. It's a complicated fluid mechanics type deal that involves the effects of pulse in a piston-driven engine but if you're interested then search for the term "Helmholtz resonator" and you'll find lots of information.

Bottom line is that Ford and other manufacturers spend a ton of time, money and effort using complex computer models to design and optimize such things. Pretty much every objective test that's been done will show that performance will be hurt by removing a well designed resonator and, generally speaking, a straight pipe doesn't perform nearly as well. There's a reason why they went through the trouble to make the intake in that particular funky looking shape.

I don't think it will hurt or hinder.

Its there to keep the woosh sound down. You know that whistle the aftermarket intakes make.

Not sure about the 5.4 because that's not what I've got. On the 4.6 the intake silencer is a basically a section of tube that is sitting inside the outer "elbow" tube you see when looking in the engine bay. You've gotta disconnect the hard plastic intake tube and MAF to remove it. After wasting a TON of time trying to get the rubber boots of each side of the intake tube I looked a little harder, found the seem and used a pair of needle nose pliers and pulled it out. I did it several months ago so I don't have the silencer to post a picture of but I will try and take some tonight to explain further.

Can someone post a pic of the silencer for the 4.6? I'm a little confused as to which part it is. I've read its inside the intake tubing and I've read its the extra bladder looking thing that connects to to intake tuning.
