Default remote start install?

i want to get a remote start for my truck. i like the viper 5101 and my buddy can get one brand new for $86 with his discount at best buy. i know our trucks require some sort of bypass which is about $30 more. has anyone tried to tackle this install themselves or know of a good write up. im no stranger to wiring and ive done turbo timers before but never a remote start. also, does anyone have a link to the bypass deal i need?

thanks

The bypass can be as easy as taping a key under the plastic cover of the steering column/ignition cover to satisfy the PATS.

Shouldn't be bad if you've done any wiring before. Almost everything should be under the steering column. Check www.the12volt.com for a list of wire colors and locations if you don't have a wiring diagram.

"Can" be as easy, or is as easy? I'm looking into getting this done as well and would like to try and save as much money as possible, lol.

Is as. Make sure it's a blank, or cut the keyed portion off. As long as you have two current keys, you can order one online and program it with the instructions in the owner's manual. If you don't have two now, it gets expensive to have the dealer program you a new one.
