Default Regearing Needed??

Damn, every time I think I have something figured out, I get another peice of the puzzle that throws another monkey wrench.

I was planning on adding a FBG 3" front 1" rear lift to my 5.4 2WD. I was reading posts from another member looking for general advice on lifts. People started mentioning regearing.

With the 5.4 does it need to be regeared if it already has a trans cooler and heavy load package? I definintely do not want to chunk the tranny.

It all depend's on the diameter of the tires you will be running. A 33" tire will be fine with 3.55 or 3.73 gear's. 35's and taller are when you need to consider lower gear's. My 3.73's are straining with 35's and a programmer.

Thanks. Yeah, I am getting 33x12.50's on my stock 18's. I also will be getting a Magnaflow 2.5" SIDO, Edge Evolution w/ Gryphon update, and Rousch CAI.
You think I will be ok with this setup without going into gears?

What rear end gear's do you have? I'd guess 3.55 with the 5.4 and towing package. You'll be OK with 33's. Custom programmed Gryphon ought to have it runnin like a scared rabbit!

Thanks for the input. I should notice if I have to regear it, right?

Lenn..do not re-gear with 33's even if you go with 12.5". The ECU is very sensitive to load and will drastically decrease the power(HP/TQ) distributed due to less "perceived" load with the new gears.

You'll be fine with the 3.55's and 33's, any higher though and you'll want to regear. I ran the 3.55's in my truck with the lift and 35's for about 7 months and then I had to regear, couldn't stand the loss of power any longer. You'll definitely know when it's time to regear.
