Default Recon Headlights Beware!

If you have been considering buying Recon products read this post and you may save quite a few bucks:
I had been looking into buying projector headlights with halos (aka angel eyes) for my 2008 F150. After reading as many posts on the subject as I could I decided on Recon since they seemed to be the most high end but also the most expensive.
I bought them off amazon to save a few bucks but they were still around $400. The install was simple, mostly plug and play except for splicing in the halos and drls. However, the led halos were so dim that you couldn't tell they were on during the day and only from within 50 feet or so at night!
Some research into ccfl halos led me to discover that Recon and Spyder sell EXACTLY the same products except Spyder offers the same healight now with ccfl halos (which are far brighter)! So I order the Spyder headlights for $200 with the ccfl halos and returned the Recons to amazon. I could not be happier with these the halos are very bright and can be used as drls.
The only difference is I ordered the "smoked" through Recon and they were gloss black. The Spyders were the "black" and they are flat black. Both had a clear lens. I have a saleen grill which is flat black so I think they match very well.
After a few rain storms neither headlight had any leaking issues and if you are worried about that you can just add a bead of calking around the seals.
Researching more on Spyder products I found that they also sell the same led tail lights and third brake light that I bought through Recon at HALF PRICE once again.
So although Recon has a great reputation they use the same products as Spyder and you can order them for half the price. I wish I had known this before I ordered all my lighting but this might help someone else save a few bucks!
If anyone is considering adding projector headlights to an 04 - 08 f150 I would highly recommend these.

I also put hids in both so they are compatible if you were wondering. I ordered both highs and lows 8000K through ddm tuning. The lows were plug and play but the highs were a pain. I had to dremel out the opening a millimeter or so or the bulb to fit in.

This is the link to Spyders page of the headlight with the ccfl halo:

Here is a pic of the Recon led halos vs the Spyder ccfl halos:

I am also swapping out all the remaining halogen bulbs for leds bought through ddm tuning. Will post pictures hopefully Wednesday if they come in.

Just an FYI there are a few differences. Recon sells a red smoked tails and spyder doesn't. Spyder heads have more chrome in them than Recon.

They are very similar but not exactly the same on some items.

This is true the only difference I've seen is the paint scheme. My recons were the gloss black while the Spyders are the flat black which I like. There is only a small bit of chrome around the blinker which I think really helps with visibility issues of the blinker.

I've come to the conclusion that most aftermarket lenses come from the same factory overseas and have the exact same quality.

Yeah just after finally buying both the expensive brand and the cheaper brand I think we can confirm that there really is no difference and you're just paying for the name at this point.
