Default Rebuild Tranny or let it Explode

I have a 2007 FX4 with 93k miles, 5.4l and I think my #9 torrington bearing is going. My truck whines in the first 3 gears, but is quiet in 4th and when O/D is off. From what I've read online, it's that #9 bearing and is roughly $2k to get fixed. Should I change the AT fluid, just wait for it to blow, or get it repaired? It shifts fine and the fluid looks like it hasn't been changed but is not in too bad of shape and doesn't smell burnt.

Thanks guys,

Seems like waiting may cause more damage and leave u stranded at an in opportune time.

So your options are spend money to fix it or let it blow and spend money to fix it.

I say let it blow.

Post pics. (video would be better)

I would get it fixed, not only because I don't like things in ill-repair or ill-state, but to also prevent any damage occurring.

I would find an independent shop for the rebuild if you have a shop do it. No need to pay the dealership tax.

X2, pull the trans and drop it off at a reputable shop. Super easy task and will save some labor costs.
