Default rearend question

I blew out the rearend in the truck today and it has the 8.8 with 3.55 gears I was wondering if I'd be able to swap in the 9.75 with 3.55 gears and everything still be good? It's a 2005 and it came with both options

Stick with the 8.8 parts are less than half the price. Not to mention after market parts.

Alright I wasn't sure I'm just stopping by the junk yard tomorrow and gonna pick one up I'm able to pick one out with lower miles but when I called them I thought it was the 9.75 and was gonna pay the 700 but after I tore I to it I saw the tag saying 8.8 so now it should only be 300 or less

Sounds lkke a good deal. Keep your old one around are check out strange and moser for parts to beef it up. You can build an 8.8 to hold 1000hp pretty cheap so just a rebuild with a few goodies should be easy on the pocket book

I bought the 8.8 for my mustang for $400 plus the 6 hr drive 1 way to go get it. The only parts I reused was the housing and pinion flange. The gears, axles, diff, master rebuild kit and fluid cost almost $900. Add $450 in having it rebuilt and having the tubes welded plus another $100 in extra bracing.... Total $1850... But it handles my 825hp cobra engine just fine.

But for a truck and especially if you do a lot of heavy towing the 9.75 is the way to go.
