Default Rear end temperature

Hey guys I am about to take the Lariat on a road trip to Orlando from Indiana and was wondering if anyone knew what temperature is a good temp for my rearend and wheel bearings to be at?
I haven't had any issues thus far but I will have my wife and kids and want to make sure my machine is performing up to correct standards to prevent failure.
Any ideas?
Truck info; 2008 lariat with 29,550 miles. Just bought it a couple months ago.

Me either but nevertheless I run a maintenance department for a blanking facility and know how machine can fail.so I was just going to check everything out on each fill up. Last thing I need is something going wrong while in the mountains. LOL.wife and kids will go crazy haha

I recently did 4k mile round trip, half of that with 1,000lbs payload. The rearend is not an issue.

as long as the fluid is no over or under filled then the temp is what it is there isn't anything you can do to change the temp anyway. unless you put a breather hose with an air filter on it like stock cars in nascar run on their cars. but thats cause they are runnin high speed for long periods of time. your rear end is fine as long as your fluid level is fine.

If your worried get the fluid changed with synthetic, OR if you want to be extreme toss on a MagHytec diff cover, they have a temp sensor port built in for a gauge.

But in all reality unless your maxing out your GCVW on some real uphill grades with your foot right in'er you'll be fine, and even then I'd be far more concerned with the trans.

I agree, if you have any doubt change the fluid before the trip. With new fluid the rear end will run as cool as can be expected. That is unless there is some kinda mechanical issue that would cause excess heat buildup. As always, choose a high quality fluid.

I did just change the fluid and I used 80w90 valvoline synthetic. The fluid that came out looked like it had 180k on it.very metallic and sludgy. Magnet had 1/4" of metallic sludge on it. I didn't go all the way and remove the cover and inspect it( as I should have). I was really disappointed considering the mileage(29k).
I appreciate the reassurance guys. I will post a picture of her under some palm trees. LOL
