Could you give a bit better description?

Is is kind of a clunk?

If so it is most likely the drive shaft. You need to grease the slip joint, which is a pretty easy job.

Yeah it is a clunk... Not terribly loud but scares me...i notice it more going from dead stop up a slight hill too much gas and a pause and "clunk" I'll definitely look into that tomorrow. Any other maintenance I should be aware of like that?? Im getting up there in miles 92k no problems besides had to get a new throttle body and front air bag impact sensor.. Hoping the 5.4 lasts 150k+ miles. Replaced those HORRID plugs and new serp. Belt gator back. Ordering SCT programmer/ Troyer tunes soooon. One weird noise started tho... When it is real cold out I get a high pitch noise that stops if I let off but gets louder. If I keep throttle in it like a plane taking off lol but when the truck warms up I never hear it..hmm. Might be my S&B CAI. But I've had it on for 2 years. With Gibson cat back

It's a pretty easy job. There's a rubber boot at the front of the rear half of the driveshaft. Undo the clamp on the side facing the front of the vehicle. Undo the four (12 mm I think, I also think it has to be a 12 point socket) nuts where the driveshast connects to the rear deferential. Pull the driveshaft a little ways toward the front of the vehicle and it will drop down. Grease the splines and reinstall. You will need a new clamp for the front of the boot I just used a regular hose-type clamp. My 04 5.4L has just over 175,000 miles on it and is running great.

Oh, and the high pitch noise could be a belt, but that's just a wild guess. When it is cold outside, and especially with a lot of moisture, the belts do not have much grip and can slip.

You're rear end..maybe change the diff fluid and add friction modifier if its a limited slip. Also, in park, crawl underneath and try and turn your drive shaft. If there is a lot of slop in it, it could be a bad U-joint

The high pitch/cold noise...mine does that in the winter too. I've read somewhere that it's an alternator issue. Why the cold would make it do that I couldn't say. Until it quits it will just have to whine at me when it's cold.

Just finished up, changed the oil so I started looking into it, u joints are fine, rear diff. Got the plug/screw out of the top... Fit my pinky in and it was a little low. 3. Squeezes of some syn. Gear oil. Back to full... Didn't tackle the drive shaft part tho.
