Default Rear Diff Gears

Need some Opinions here... I had So. Cal. Super Trucks re-gear my 2006 F-150 to 4.56 gears in order to turn my 35's and have enough power to tow my toy hauler. After 9,000 miles on the gears they ar now "Humming" between 35 and 75 miles per hour. Super Trucks says I got them too hot. They want $400.00 to R&R the Gears with a New Set pending the Gear Manufacturer will warranty the gears. Seems rediculous to me... My stock gears I never had a problem with!!! My questions is: Is there anything I can do now to reduce the humming noise? Does this sound right that they are humming from getting them too hot? Any thoughts??? Thanks in advance...

Also, when you had them installed, did you have a rebuild kit done as well? Most places will recommend that and it's generally only about $70 to $80 extra.

If they put your new gears in and didn't replace anything else other then repack the seals, I could see that potentially causing an issue.

But yes, breaking them in will also help prevent the whining. I put 4:10's in mine and I personally didn't do a break in period but that's cause I can barely even hear the stereo over the exhaust roar much less gear whine. lol

Breaking them in is a good idea. A good rule of thumb is to not pull anything for at least 500 miles. When you got them installed, was there a warranty on parts and labor? The only way that they would be humming so soon is what SOGWAP55 said about the rebuild kit. Is the paint on the back of the diff cover peeling off?

Default Rear Diff Gears

Thanks for the reply's...
I did their recommended break-in exactly. They had me "Baby" it for 500 miles and not tow for 1,000 miles. I was SUPER EASY on it.... Also, they did do the rebuild kits. I have my receipt and it shows the 2 kits at $101.07 each (I did front and rear gears)... I went out and checked the paint on the diff cover. It is puffy and cracked... It definitely got pretty hot at one time and burned the paint. When I press on the paint it crackles... So, I am guessing they are correct that they got too hot!!! Question is: What can I do about it now without replacing the gears again???

That depends on you. If you want the rig to get up and go a little quicker 4.10's or 4.56's could help that but your freeway mileage will drop a little. What gears do you have now?
