Default Rear Diff cover

I was checking out my rear diff cover to see what I was working with when I replace the fluid and I noticed that somebody had put RTV between the bolt and cover for all of the bolts. I don't recall reading about that in any of the diff fluid change threads, so I'm assuming that's an unnecessary step? Will that make the bolts harder to get out?

To my knowledge these differentials do not have seals or gaskets for the diff cover thus requiring the RTV between the cover and diff. Some of the aftermarket covers like Mag Hytec and AFE comes with a gasket and does not need the RTV.

When you put the cover back on the gasket (RTV) will get squeezed through the bolt holes as you tighten it.

Any recommended ones with drain plugs built into them?

Did the Dorman tranny pan with drain.

you can buy a gasket for OEM diff covers.. but, I would still recommend some ultra black RTV on each surface.

There's a company called Purple Cranium that sells covers with drain plugs for most axles.

they RTV'd the **** out of that.
I bet it's sealed though. I used ultra black and had a little bit of run-off. Cleaned it up though because, you know, aesthetics
