Default Rear ABS Sensor

I pulled my rear ABS sensor yesterday and noticed fluid on the sensor. Is this brake fluid or gear oil?

I was just making sure. I have the dreaded ABS light on and the code pointed to rear center ABS speed sensor. I replaced the one in the chunk along with the pigtail with no luck. The guy at the parts store recommended I bleed my brakes and showed him the old sensor and said you need to bleed your brakes, that smells like contaminated brake fluid. I said it's gear oil and the friction modifier makes it smell awful. He disagreed that it was gear oil. Anyways. Any ideas on how I can fix this? It just started after I pulled my transmission to replace a cracked flex plate...
