Default Re-gear question.

Hi all, i'm looking for any opinions on regearing. my truck is a 2008 fx4 5.4l with a 2 inch level and 33.5". I'm planning on doing a 4" lift with 35's, and ive read that most people do either a 4:10 or 4:56 ratio swap. my concern is i live in an area with a lot of long hills and would like to be able to keep up. would regearing help me with this or is there something else i should try?

thanks!

I would think a regear would help you a lot in that situation.

What's the average price of regearing, with parts and labor?

I'm getting this done on my 05 5.4 S-Crew on Tuesday. Offroad Warehouse in Southern California quoted me $1041 parts and labor. I'm probably going to go ahead and drop another $200 for a new differential cover with drain and increased capacity. I'll know pretty quickly how it affected it because there is a hill I hit every day taking kid to school that the 35"s and stock 3.73 gears just dog it up.

There is a pretty good youtube video here showing what the job entails. I felt better about the grand after watching. Definitely out of my skill level.

PS- That does not include tuning the computer to know about the new gear and tires. I bought a tuner for $200 to do it myself, but additional cost to consider either way you go about it. By the way, aside from 10mpg, I would not have needed to do this job if I didn't tow occasionally. Without towing, you'll just be living with crappy MPG. Do the math to decide if it is worth the extra cost.
