Default Raw Deal on an F150 - Need advice

So I dont know much about Lemon laws and such but I got a 2008 F150 about 2 weeks ago with about 125k on it. I did my research but not enough apparently to know about the spark plugs and cam phasers.

Anyways I got it home and didnt drive it for a few days because I drive another car for work. Then I took it out for the weekend and I was merging on the highway and it started to misfire. being a Ford owner i knew it was most likely a coil and so I ended up ordering a full set of coils and spark plugs. Got it replaced thanks to the person before me who used anti seize on the spark plugs!

So that whole thing wasn't so bad and figured it had to be done anyways. But yesterday i was merging on the highway and I got a burning smell and about 20 minutes later it stated making a bad sound returning back to idle. See this post i made regarding that whole problem: https://www.f150forum.com/f11/help-h...g-down-252035/

The truck as of today is no longer making the noise and i cant reproduce it but it has a P0345 code (cam shaft position sensor "circuit A" "bank 2"). My thought is this thing ether skipped a gear or the phasers are really that bad now.

Now at the dealer the sales guy was pretty insistence i didn't take it on the highway. To his defense it was rush hour and it may have been bad or it could have been the fact that he knew there were problems with this truck to begin with. Now I have a truck that I ether need to dump 1500+ into for phasers chains ect along with the $450 I just dumped in for coils and plugs.

I am not sure if any sort of laws apply to this or not or if i am really stuck with a ticking time bomb. Any sort of advice would be much appreciated.

Check your local laws for lemon laws. Here in AZ you have 30 days. Or take your chances at the dealer. Go back when they seem to be busy, speak very clearly and loud enough others nearby can hear you. But be civil...no cursing or threats. I bet you'll get what you need taken care of.

Here in NY a dealer doesn't have to give warranty for any vehicle with 100,000 miles or more. Anything under that gets a 30 day, 3000 mile warranty usually

From my experience most dealers will take care of you in a situation like this. Sure the salesman could have known about the issue but I'd doubt it. He probably didn't want to mess with rush hour traffic. I have had a situation like this occur and the dealer took care of it 2 our of the 3 times. It usually was not quite as expensive as a repair but still took care of me. I live in a smaller town though and most dealers live off repeat customers so maybe that plays a role in it? As far as a lemon law I doubt they would cover an 08 with that amount of miles.

I agree with Adam in allowing the dealership to fix it. I recently purchased an 2006 F150 and within 2 months it had a clogged catalytic converters due to a misfire which wasn't addressed right away. After looking around at the cost to replace the cats (upwards of $1200) I opted to reach out to the dealership who without hesitation made me an appointment to bring it down and they replaced both for free.

From my experiences buying a used F150 I've found that the inspection process done by most dealerships is more of a browse over vs a full work up. In other words they look for visible problems but don't usually remove any parts (valve covers, spark plugs, etc) unless there's a need. And not saying on this forum are people who will put heavier weight oil before turning their trucks in so covers up the phaser diesel noise.

Best of luck.

Thanks everyone. I talked with the MN attorney generals office today just to see if i had anything to go off of from a legal standpoint. MN law only applies to anything under 70k up to 30 days after purchase but I called and spoke with the general manager at the dealer and they said they would work something out. Not sure what that is yet but ill find out this Tuesday.
