Default Rattle noise when idling

Hello,

This is my 1st post here so let me know if I am in the wrong area. I have a 2006 F-150 Crew that has a slight rattle while idling. When I kick my AC on the rattle goes away as long as the compressor is running. Just curious if anyone else has experienced this problem. Thanks.

Yes. I bought my truck that way. It was the compressor clutch. I didn't feel like replacing just the clutch, so I replaced the entire compressor and clutch assembly.

Ok thanks Martian. My research online has also pointed towards replacing the whole thing. Anyone have an estimate of the cost? I'm in michigan if that helps.

Depends on if you do it or if you have someone else do it. I bought a new compressor and clutch assembly from Rock Auto for around $140. $20 at a local shop to evacuate the refrigerant, replaced the assembly myself, about $100 to have it vacuumed, leak tested, and recharged. And maybe another $5 or $6 for the bottle of compressor oil I needed to prime the compressor before I installed it.
