Default Question About Edge Programmer

Quick question about the Edge. Does it always need to be plugged in, or can you plug in, install tune, and unplug like other handhelds?

The only time I can see myself wanting it in the dash is when towing.

Thanks!

Yes, you can do as you ask. Makes more sense if you don't have a dash pod.

Once the truck is tuned, you can unplug it until you want to use it again. A tune literally is just a computer file so once it's uploaded to the truck, just gonna stay there until you change it.

That's a good idea! Especially if thieves see it in your truck they could break in and still it. Can't trust anyone now a days!

May I ask why you wish to remove it? I love having the extra gauges and being able to read any DTCs. It's the main reason I picked the Edge as well. It's more bang for your buck getting used all the time instead of getting tossed in the glove box.

Personally, I don't care for the looks of it. They did a nice job with the pod, but it doesn't look factory enough for me. I don't have it yet, but I don't plan on running it in the pod.

Also, I think the information it displays is only going to be useful when towing or making long trips. As mentioned a few posts earlier, it could be tempting for someone if it is in plain sight when my truck is parked anywhere.

Mine is unplugged and in the center console. I had it out and watched it for 6 months or so, got tired of it and couldn't find a clean factory looking mount for it. Now it's only out to adjust my tunes.
