The dealer Rotunda tool is not garenteed. The lower part of the porcelin has to be removed. This cannot be drilled. Then a vacuum cap is placed in the bottom the remaining plug to prevent and debrees falling into the cylinder. Then they tap the remaining plug with a nine mm tap and use the tool to remove it. The if on this tool is they have to be able to get porcelin out. Also this tool is about 220 new if you buy it.

i did a set on a truck at my work and i called method showed on the tape worked fine for me this was an 04 3v 5.4 work truck but i called the ford dealer first they told be to move each plug a quater turn spray em with penetrating oil then hook the coils up and let it run for a few minutes then take em out, apparently it helps havin the heads warm, unlike most aluminum heads but it worked for me

Matt06, that is really interesting. The plot thickens, this black eye (Fords) is getting worse. I'm 64 and have never owned anything but Fords, looking for a replacement for my 02, 4.2. Need more pull power for boat trailering. Very concerned. Thanks for the input.

the 07-08 5.4's don't have this problem to my knowledge, but if your looking for something a little better for towing the 4.6 (which the 4.6 doesn't have the plug issue) truck really isn't bad dads friend has one and he used to have a 4.9 I6 truck and he says that 4.6 pulls his boat better than that truck could ever have done and he gets 17mpg around town ( work truck so that 17 is when its loaded or hooked to a trailer) but bill i used to always be a chevy guy until i got this truck and i'm not gonna lie i love it to death i had 01 6.0 chevy and this ford i have tows just as good with way better fuel mileage
