Default Purchasing first F-150

Hi, I will be purchasing my first F-150 in the next month or so and am searching for a good deal on a FX4, most likely will end up with an STX because of price. My question is: what should I look for when I'm visiting the dealerships? What should I check out to make sure it's in good condition/working? I will be taking the truck to a mechanic to thoroughly inspect it but if I can run a visual check beforehand I can weed out the bad trucks with issues.

Thanks.

You mean STX?

Your already doing the right thing by having the mechanicals checked out by a mechanic before buying. I suppose you could ask for a CARFAX report as well, although they are not always the perfect in reporting any accedents against the truck It's free from a reputable dealer, so ask anyway.

Other than the usual 5.4 engine issues (spark plugs on 2004 to early 2006), can phaser, etc which can be found on this site with a search, I would check the frame for damage, rust, and of course the trucks mileage.

One thing to ensure is that the 4x4 (if equipped) is operational.

No. The 5.4 spark plug issue extends into the 2008 MY.

Yes but make no mistake. MY 2008 F-150s still have the problem. The troubled heads were made up until late 2007. My co-worker's 2008 is affected. I know, I helped him change them.
