Default Puddle lamp bulb replacement

So, my new 2006 F150 King Ranch has the tow mirrors with puddle lamps... both of which are not working... I'm assuming burnt out, but I'll have to check on that this weekend. Anyways, there seems to be a plethora of threads on puddle lamps, but they all deal with complicated LED replacements that entail sawing and epoxy and baking and other things that I am just not willing to do for a silly puddle lamp. For me, just a simple, cheap, OEM fix / replacement is all I want. Again, in searching the forums, it seems as though the only option for a direct OEM replacement is to buy a new mirror from Ford. Again... not willing to do that.

So, for those of us who don't exactly want to spend 4 hours hacking apart our mirrors and baking casings open, I may have found another solution... Somewhere in the nether regions of the interwebs, I stumbled upon a website that claims to have new OEM puddle lamp bulbs - and they aren't terribly expensive.

Here's the link: https://www.autopartscheaper.com/pro...mirror-genuine Less than $30 per unit seems spendy, but much better than buying a whole new mirror or hacking apart everything to throw in an LED.

So my question... Being new to the forum, does anyone have any experience with this website? They seem to be reputable, but fancy marketing doesn't always equate good product. Also, anything I should be aware of when diving into this replacement? I'm assuming it should be fairly straight forward, but all I've been able to find on the forums are complicated LED replacement instructions - some of which entail removing and completely disassembling the mirror to get to the silly bulb. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

Just open up your puddle lights and replace the bulb with an LED. Its not as complicated as you make it sound. Use a razor blade to break the glue seal on the top lens. Then swap the bulbs and test it. If it works then use a small amount of clear silicon and put them under a book for a few hours to set up then put them back in. Its maybe a TOTAL of 15 minutes of work and can be done with simple tools and supplies. It will save you money.

Ok, thanks BadFish. If that is all it entails, I may try that. Is it a 30 or a 31 mm? or is there a specific part number? I could pick the stuff up tonight. I'm going to go searching, but I'm at work, so I may not be able to look very thoroughly.

I dont remember what bulb it takes. I saw a bunch of videos of people using saws and dremels. I literally used a a rozor blade knife all around the edges just under the clear lens to break the seal. ( Disclaimer Be careful using sharp tools and I am not responsible if you cut yourself) Then a little prying with a small flathead screwdriver and it popped right off. I then put the bulb in and hooked the wires back up and tested it. Since LEDs require positive to positive connection to work right. When I got them working I put a small bead of clear silicon around the cleaned up edge of the housing to stick the lens back onto the housing. I then set them lens down on a clean dry surface and then put some weight (a book or two) on top of them and left them that way for about 3 hours. Then connected the wires and snapped them back into the mirror. Total time (minus waiting on the silcone) was about 15 minutes.
