Default does anyone use a tailgate net???

Can I see some pictures? Recommendation of a brand for 2006 Super Cab and experience with functionality.
I was carrying a twin size mattress and springbox in my 5.5 foot bed this weekend and had to drive with an open cover, cause they wouldn't fit.
Thinking a net would have solved that problem, right?

Wow, no one gives a sh*t apparently. Have you thought about the extend- a-bed that Ford and some companies make.

I have seen it done on ours, but it does have a negative affect I believe on your MPG's. I myself considered doing it as well. The net of course, not the extender.

I was thinking of installing the net in addition to the tailgate, so when you need some extra room, i can drop the gate and use the net. I find it hard to believe that not one person on here has one....
I thought about those metal extenders but they are expensive, heavy and take up a lot of room in my already short 5.5' bed.

This will suprise you, as it did me...In an old episode of Mythbusters, the tailgate net was the only device they tested out of several things that showed any MPG gain! They tried slanting the stock tailgate, removing it, installing a bed cover, and the net. None of the other tests showed MPG improvement except the net. It was a low improvement, somewhere in the .02 MPG or something like that.

I won't go out and buy one because of these results though, as I don't get the point of a net as a tailgate.

My tailgate got stolen so I purchased a net to use until I could replace my tailgate. The neT I bought turned out to be useless it could hardly hold itself on the truck much less anything in the bed. If anyone knows of a good tailgate net let me know.

I have a 2010 with the 5.5 box and had an '03 with the same. If I have a load longer than 5.5 feet, I leave the gate open and tie the load down. If you had a net, I don't think it would have stretched to the length of the mattress anyway. Why did you have to leave the cover open? A mattress & box spring shouldn't have been that tall.

When I have to haul a mattress I use tie downs across it from the bed anchor points. I then put two from my hitch up to the one across the back and leave the cover closed.

Hey folks, I do see that the topic is old, yet I was about to grab one of those bully tailgate nets. And I was wondering what would you say about its quality? How long did it last? Didn't it crack in winter? I am sorry for rising this old topic, yet I really wanted some real feedback on those nets from someone who really used this stuff. Cheers!
