Default Programmers

Ok guys, for Christmas this year I think Im going to ask the big man for a programmer. I have seen the edge evos and I sorta like those. But I want something that I can upload custom tunes to also. I have a 2004 F150 5.4 3v. What do ya ll suggest? Also if someone was to write a custom tune, what do the tunes usually cost? Fixing to swap to a dual out flowmaster, and want to her to really open up....

I'm in the same boat as you, and am debating between the Edge and the Gryphon. They're both the same thing as far as stock tunes and the actual programmer itself goes, except the Gryphon you can load custom tunes on, the Evo you can't. However you can upgrade an Evo to a Gryphon by simply using the software provided to do so. Both come with the dash mount as well.

What I think I might do is just get an Evo to start out just so I can get the feel for a programmer and understand how to use one, and then eventually upgrade it to a Gryphon when I know more about what I'm doing and want a custom tune. Also, if you have mods such as a CAI or dual exhaust on your truck, it's better to get a custom tune for the specific mods so that you can take full advantage of them without causing harm to your engine, because most of the stock tunes don't do much in the way of using your mods to their fullest.

Custom tunes can cost anywhere from 30-60 bucks from PHP for an Edge/Gryphon, depending on whether you bought it from them or not.

Love my Gryphon,

$370 and $30 for each custom tune.
If you want flashy they have more expensive models like color screens, and touch screens.

Here's my Gryphon CTS from Power Hungry Performance on my 2009 FX4. I have a custom 87 octane performance, custom 87 octane tow, and a custom 91 octane performance. I've only used the 87 tunes just because I don't feel like buying premium, but WOW what a difference these make. Aside from being sick on performance and economy it looks pretty sweet and has some badass features like maintenance manager and mileage coach, I'm getting around 16.5 mgs around town now (tho this shows 15 cause I was driving the s*** out of it since the programmer/tunes were brand new) and I've seen 21 mpgs on the highway.........
