Default Program new key - unique situation

I have not been able to find an answer to this question so I thought I would ask here. I recently purchased a 2004 F150. It only came with one non-factory key. Can I program a second non-factory key using the one I already have?

Can I damage anything by trying this?

You need 2 to program additional keys. I brought my new key to ford and they did it for $70. A lot of money but really needed the keys. Maybe others have figured out how to do it w/out.

The eight time cycle is to program the lock unlock buttons. You need two factory keys to program another key to work with the PATS system.

These guys are exactly right. You need 2 programmed keys to program more on your own.

I bought a 06 150 Lariet 6 months ago with only one key. I went to a local Locksmith office to see what they could do before going to the dealer to get my wallet fleeced. Locksmith was able to read the chip code in my key and duplicate in a new chip security key. Key that was made works great. Used it for a week to test it to make sure it worked with my security system. Did not have a problem. Total cost $35.00

That is a great way to do it, just remember with that key you won't be able to program a new one.
