Default Premium Audio System

Hello
I am new to the forum and i have a few questions, i own a 2006 lariat, which of course comes with a premium sound system, the sound system is in perfect shape and sounds good, but now i am thinking of buying high quality after market speakers (Alpine, Infinity, etc) to replace the OEM ones, but since the OEM ones are supposed to be "premium" maybe there won't be much difference in the quality of the sound to justify the $$ for the aftermarket speakers.
Of course if i go to the audio store they will say how bad the factory system is just to make a sale, i know that, that is why i want the non biased opinion from the forum members here.
i am not after the earth shaking sound system and i don't want a component audio system either, i just want to replace the factory speakers for better, crisp and clear sounding ones and keep the interior of the truck original looking, so what do you guys think? the OEM speakers rival their aftemarket counterpart? are their qualities comparable? or there is just no comparison, thanks.

I have alpines in the front and I left my factory speakers in the back and I cant honestly notice a difference but I also have to 12 inch subs in the back. But I can't tell a difference.

i have an 05, i replaced the front speakers with clarions (mediocre) which is what i wanted, and the bass has improved with just those two speakers, and the sound is much, much clearer, especially when playing a cd...however i havent replaced the factory deck yet, so i still get fairly **** sound with the radio and such...but i will be replacing the back speakers and the deck so hopefully that cleans it up nice. but i didnt have the premium sound, i just had the normal old factories...and living in good old cold *** canada, there was even road salt around the speaker when i removed it...

I have the "premium sound" in my truck. The package is made by Audiophile. After working in a stereo shop for a few years and doing up grades to stereos all the time-when people would bring these trucks in, I would recommend just swapping out the subwoofer and amp, keep the same box and maybe change the deck if they wanted mp3, bluetooth, etc. Every customer was happy with it as they drove off every time. I put an Alpine headunit and a Kenwood headunit in my truck and there was really no difference in SQ. The only reason I swapped the headunits was to get a screen in the front.

audiophile isnt a company, its the marketing name.

the OEM sub is just fine, if you recommend changing it out, then its easy way to make money. The issue is with the connection, harness to RCA adapters are used to maintain signal to the OEM amp for the woofer, but the issue is with the phase wiring to the amp. The OEM headunit has its own phase frequency and if an aftermarket headunit is working with the factory woofer setup, the wiring needs to have a transducer wired in or at a minimum, a resistor so that the sub wont pop when the amp turns on.

I am putting in the line converter and I am looking for a wiring diagram. I want to find out which wires I can splice into for this line converter to connect the RCA's. I wanna do it the right way..if I cant find out then ill just splice into the speaker wire behind the radio.

I have an 05" Lariat with premium sound package and it sounds great, I used to have an Imapla with 2 10" Pioneers with a 1000 watt kicker amp but I dont think my truck needs anything more than a touchscreen kenwood deck... not anytime of course though

i have a 04 lariat with premium sound and the factory 8" sub. i replaced the deck with a pioneer touch screen and bought the harness to conect my factory sub and steering controls. it sounds a lot better with the aftermarket deck with stock speakers. the bass is a little on the light side for me so i am going to replace the sub with a kicker shallow mount and external kicker 150.2. as for the highs iam goin to leave them alone for now. i have had a lot of high end car stereos in past vehicles and yes u can get better sound just depends how deep ur pockets are? but the "stock componets are farliy good sounding to me" so iam going to put the money into other parts
