yes you can mix power steering fluid. i had a problem with mine where it would whine and i ended up having to replace my lines because i had a leak in the hose where the hard line clamped to the soft line.

Hey guys, not sure of the cause, probably just a poorly made part Ford buys or something along those lines, but my solution was pretty lucky. I was out of warranty for everything but power train by about a 1000 miles, but the dealership here in College Station went ahead and did the work anyways free of charge. The receipt that I have says

"...CAUSE: LEAK FOUND AT STEERING PRESSURE LINE. R AND R PRESSURE LINE AND STEERING PUMP.
3674A PUMP - POWER STEERING - REMOVAL AND INSTALL OR REPLACE (3A674) - L (then techs name and the time it took)

1 8L3Z*3A719*A HOSE ASY
3 XT*5*QMC FLUID - TRANSMISSION
1 7L3Z*3A674*BG PUMP ASY - POWER STEERING
1 *388898*S SEAL...
...PART# 7L3Z*3A674*BG"

If that helps.

I hear horror stories about "stealerships" screwing people over, but my local Ford dealership has been good to me the two times that I've visited them.

Ok, so it was a leak. Glad to hear it was fixed for free. Those are the best kinds of repairs.

I guess that's what "3 XT*5*QMC FLUID - TRANSMISSION" is, cuz I was wondering about that.

That's the one. I've visited them only a few times and have always been treated well and they are very helpful.
