ok here is my problem, i have 2006 5.4, 50 000 miles on it.

2 days ago i was driving about 50 mph and all of a sudden the truck slows down and finally quits, i shift to neutral and restarted and it was fine after that.

then the next day it quits again and restarts fine and i drove twenty mins or so.

then today it did it again, and also noticed it was kinda hesitating/missing a couple times, but i made it to work.

then tonight i go to leave work, drove about 2 mins and it quit, restarted, quit again after about 5 secs, then restarted and quit again, and finally it would not start again.

sat about an hour waiting on tow truck, and even after i got to towed to ford dealer, it still would not start.

What does everyone think? fuel pump? fuel filter?
something wrong with the coils or spark?

ford will look at it on monday, i am just wondering what you guys think it could be.

Well when you first started talking about it how it drives and quits then restarts and continue driving I thought it was the TCC in the transmission, but then you said it died and wouldnt start so its not the TCC.

I highly doubt its spark cause I figure it would still start even on 7 cyl or possibly 6.....Im gonna say its fuel pump as well, considering I just put a new pump in mine 2 days ago lol.

 

Fuel pump is my guess also, but GUESS is the key word. Don't hold me to it, Good Luck!

 

tried it again today, and still not starting and i can not hear fuel pump, should i be able to hear it??

anyone know what it usually costs to replace pump?

 

from what you say it sounds like the fuel pump... well i cant talk bout a f150 but on my car a fuel pump cost me almost 1000, labor is a b****! plus i was in the middle of no where... good luck

 

before you replace the fuel pump check the fuel mod it sets above the spare tire on the frame it cost $105 fuel pump $370. What happens is that fuel mod is made out of soft metal and is getting moister in it. You should be able to hear the fuel pump but you have to get your ear next to it. let me know if you have any more questions I have replaced all of the fuel problem parts on a f150

 

yes it could be the fuel module has gotten water or salt water inside.

it has been very snowy and i have driven on alot of salty wet roads this week, and i did pressure wash under the truck last weekend, so hopefully it is the fuel pump module.

Its at the ford dealer right now, and they are a great dealer, i trust them. i have known the mechanics for years. so i am hoping they can find the problem quickly tomorrow!

i will let you guys know what it was.

 

I got my pump at NAPA for only $130, its over $300 at the dealer.

dealer says it was the fuel pump module, replaced for $151.23 for the module, and $78 for hours labour, total of $259.03 canadian to get it fixed.

so hopefully that was truly the problem, it is running good now, so i hope it stays that way.

my module did not have any holes rotted through that i could see, but it was rough looking, so i guess water got in somehow.

the new part is not any different then the old one, and is mounted the exact same way, i asked them about what i read on here the new ones came with studs and spacer to keep it away from the mounting surface, but they didn't know, and they didn't have anything like that.

so i might put spacers in myself sometime.
