Default Popping noise coming from brake pedal.

I have a 2007 F150 FX4. I purchased it last week and there is a popping sound coming from the brake pedal arm. I found where it is coming from, but I have no idea what this piece is. See attached picture. It kind of looks like a shock absorber for the brake pedal. It just pops loudly every time you press the brake pedal.

What is this thing? Anybody else having this problem? Is it adjustable or fixable?

Nope. That is higher up on the arm. This is where the black plastic portion of the arm attaches to the cast aluminum piece that connects to the push rod.

Update: I have not fixed the issue, but the popping sound is coming from the adjustable pedal mechanism.

Did this ever get resolved? I have an 07 STX special edition and mine just started popping today. I hear it inside the cab when I barely touch the pedal.
