My GF does this with her Cobalt and it works every time. Pisses me off. I dont understand it, but it does work for some reason.

Try cleaning the conacts for the battery. They sell electrical contact cleaner at auto part stores as well as Radio Shack and Home Depot. The slightest bit of dirt or corrosion will cause problems.I have stuff that that is in a pen type applicator with a gritty tip. It cleans off the slightest corrosion. The first battery may not have been bad.
