Default Please Help!!!! Possible Injector Problems

Hi, thanks for reading,

To start with, I have an '04 STD Cab F-150 FX4 with the 5.4L 3V engine. I have been reading about other people having injector problems and I have started noticing a few issues with my truck. The first thing is the occasional dificulty starting the engine, after a second or third try, it usually starts but runs rough for a few seconds. The other thing I just noticed tonight is a slight rotten egg smell coming from the exhaust.....so has anyone else had these problems leading to a stuck injector and hydrolock? Also, I live near Richmond, Va and I think the dealer nearest me is pretty incompetant, so any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

I've always been told that a rotten egg smell is your catalytic converter going bad

Ive never had the check engine light come on, so will the computer still give codes, or do I need to drive it till something bad happens. Also, how are you guys scanning the computer for codes....through your tuner, a computer scanner or the mechanic?

Not the guru on the engine involved. It sure does sound like an injector issue. Seems to be more of this happening then I like to hear. Am wondering if fuel filters are not fine enough to prevent contamination and sticking. What fuel filter have you been using. Wonder if there is an additional add on filter we can install.

The only fuel filter I've been using is the dealer installed Motocraft filter that was changed at 30k.

Injector problems aren't a common issue with the 04s like in the 05 and early 06s, not to say that isn't your problem. I never had a SES light on my truck when it was misfiring so my dealer did a Power/Load Balance, but even that was inconclusive. It wasn't until they actually seen the truck misfiring until they could confirm I was having an injector problem and were able to diagnose what one was doing it.

Also I never got a rotten egg smell out of mine. however it did smoke, buck and backfire. Good luck with it
