My understanding is limited, but a true dual is essentially two separate exhausts from engine to rear (I think.) You can do a dual exhaust that's 1 pipe into two, but then it's merely for looks I'd think.

Someone who knows more will chime in.

I like the side exhaust, for it's looks, but if you haul I'd think you wouldn't want it sticking straight out the back.

Yeah I didn't think about hauling. You're right.

You're right lol. True duals are from exhaust manifolds (or headers, if you go far enough to slap headers on) back on each side.

Now in terms of a cat-back kit, they're cheaper and easier to install than a true dual kit. This FM American Thunder cat-back exits out the rear on each side where yours currently exits, but sounds and looks much better (I know it's not straight out the back like you wanted but these at least wouldn't hurt your hauling abilities). My buddy has this kit on his '06 F150 with a 4.6, and it sounds pretty darn good to me. Yeah, true duals are better sounding than a cat-back, but they tend to cost a lot more too... I don't know if your truck is a V6 or a V8 but this kit fits the 4.6 and the 5.4. I'm sure you could get it for the V6 just as well if you wanted.

Your truck looks great man! Not over the top, but not too subtle. Just perfect.

You can do true duals on these because our trucks have cats on both exhaust manifolds.

The muffler shop I use will bend up and install a cat-back system w/ mufflers like above for the same price I pay for just the kit. No labor for me.

Can you explain that to me in lamen terms? "Cats on both exhaust manifolds"? Does that mean it's easy to do a true dual exhaust?

Our trucks have two cats, one after each exhaust manifold. Both pipes after the cats merge into one pipe and goes to the muffler.

You can do true duals LEGALLY because of the 2 cats.

For looks maybe I should just go with an exhaust tip.

Do they make a black exhaust tip that I can put on the ugly rusty looking exhaust that I have showing? Looking at prices for exhaust they seem kinda steep. A black cover or tip would make me feel much better.

You could always call around to shops and ask how much they will charge to do your exhaust how you want it. I got my exhaust done last Thursday for 300 including tips and he cut off two of the four cats I had. If you just want a tip, you could go to Amazon or some other online site and look for black tips. You could either have them weld the tip on or just clamp it on. If you want some rumble I'd recommend calling shops and asking how much.

Someone mentioned exhaust out the back may interfere with towing. Are you sure? It seems like unless I almost jack knifed, and even then, it seems like I would miss the tail pipes.

I'm just asking, cause you guys are the experts.
