Default Parking issue

Last night I put my truck in park, and the orange mark said it was in Reverse, but it was in park. I tried a few times and could not get the orange mark to move to "P". I tapped the gauge cluster and it popped over. I wrnt back out after dinner, and it worked smoothly, but would not go to "P" this morning when I got to work. I have searched about transmission issues, but cant seem to figure out what may be causing it. It is a column shift, 07. Can the table be tightened or something? Thanks

It's a common issue, the tiny cable that pulls that orange marker stretches out or gets damaged.... That cable is like a 12 pound fishing line or thicker so they snap and stretch easily

So if I crawl under the steering wheel will I be able to see this? I also read something about torx screws that can come loose? Is that more of a transmission issue? Everytime I read about a problem, I assume the worst. Hopefully it is just a loose cable that can be tightened and not transmission problem

I highly doubt any type of transmission issue unless your transmission itself is acting up. It is very likely just the cable for the gauge cluster.

Your probably right, I am just a worst case scanario/hypochondriac when it comes to the truck. I will peek around behind the cluster and see what I can find. It still shifts into all the gears pretty smoothly so that is good

you would need to take out the cluster, and check that wire.
