Default Panicking

Finding out more and more about this truck. Certainly not like the older v8's. Got the tell tale cam phazer knock. Just got the truck about 4 months ago...still chasing down the misfire, now this! Can't afford the repair and really can't afford a new engine. Planning on trading it off for something cheap and economical....looked up trade in value Can't take a hit like that either. Just don't know what I am going to do.

Well we can help you with the miss fire and don't worry about the cam phasers for now. Tell us the year and engine and mileage of your truck and we will try to help you out.

'05 5.4 132k. Had it to the stealer and had bad coil on 2&4. I replaced them myself. Still missing.
About the cam phasers..been reading about engine needing replaced if you don't get to them soon enough ....then I read some posts saying don't worry about it, if you can stand the noise, just forget it. So I am really confused.

The cam phasers may cause long term damage. Most people on here choose to leave them be including me. As for the miss fire have you checked for codes? Most auto parts stores check them foe free. Get them checked and if the truck has thrown a code it should point you in a good direction for the fix. It may be that you have another bad coil or that you need a plug change. But you can start by changing the fuel filter if you haven't already. My truck had a miss fire problem and after I changed the filter no more problems. When does it have the miss? At idle?

misses at 40-50 mph. Usually when just starting under load like going up slight incline. No codes. Have fuel filter and tool, just got to get to it.

Man it sounds like you have a coil on its way out. As I'm sure you know the plugs on the early 5.4 3vs are a 2 piece design and sometimes break when removing them. I've had 2 coils go out since I've had my truck. If I was you I would consider buying 6 new coils for all the cylinders except for the 2 u have already replaced. Or just keep driving untill it finally throws a code.
