Default Paint touchup?

So I've been noticing a few scratches on my truck that last few weeks, one including a hide gouge with rust!! :O
So I Went to the dealer and got some paint match. It has on it a brush and a "ball pen"
What method should I use to apply it, or is there a better method?

I've done this on my tailgate and it looks like crap. Either leaves it looking like a 2 year old finger paint on your truck. I mean it keeps the look equal with the paint color but up close it's nasty. Idk if you can see under the ford logo on my tailgate but I used the same touch up on mine. I'll get a close up in the morning

Yeah please upload the picture! And well if anything I'll get that rusty spot, which has been bugging me since I seen it. Should I sand the rust off first?

Get a toothpick and Dab it on the scratch..the pen and brush apply way too much paint making it look obvious..but dipping a toothbrush in and dabbing it on little by little til its even with the original paint..and get some clear coat to make it shine like the original paint

So just sand the rust off with some high grit paper?
Okay, I'll give the toothpick a try! As for the clear coat, spray on stuff or is it like a paint? Not quite sure what you mean. I used some spray can clear coat on my TL's when I blacked them out...would that work?

You can try to spray it on but I'd find a small bottle on clear coat that has a very small brush with it
